The reveal

Well, here it is! The actual finished result. The pictures may make it seem like it was an easy task, but it required some changes and decision making.

I got the cake iced no problem and made the fondant with little trouble. It actually had a nice beige color to it which made the lace pop a little better.

Covering the cake with the fondant was a little more challenging for me this time. I rolled the fondant pretty thin and smoothing it out on the cake proved to be a little difficult. I had a couple flaws on both tiers, which I could not fix for the life of me. But luckily I had them both on the "back" side of the cake.
After I assembled the cake, I decided that the simple design of just having the lace on the bottom of both of the tiers was not going to look that great.
I tried a lot of different piping techniques on the tiers, and after wiping three of them off, I finally went with the shell along the bottoms.

you can kind of see the flaw here. grr

I also decided to only put the lace on the bottom tier (which was fake) that way when they went to cut into the top tier, Sara and Matt wouldn't have to worry about removing anything.
As you can see, I went with the first flower choice. The other one, I felt, was too big for the cake and didn't have the simple elegant look that this one had.

When it was all said and done, I was really happy with the outcome of the cake. I thought it was simple and elegant, which was what Sara wanted. However, I think I have decided that I don't really like working with fondant all that much. I don't mean this to sound snobby, but I can get a cake very smooth with butter cream. I do, however, understand the seamless appeal and look of fondant, but it doesn't seem like anyone likes the taste of it. I know with more practice it will get easier, but I think I will keep trying to excel with butter cream. We'll see =]
Anyone else have any thoughts?
I had a great time making this cake and I can't wait to see pictures from the wedding.
Congratulations to the newly wed couple, Matt and Sara!! Thank you for letting me be a part of your special day =]
