Where I started.

My very first decorating job was at Cashwise Bakery in Waite Park, MN. Honestly, this seems like forever ago. I can't even remember exactly when I started there, but I do know I learned a lot. Above is one of the first cakes I ever did.
I remember how proud of myself I was, I mean, I iced and decorated that sucker all on my own! Go me!
I remember leaving that job and moving back to Minneapolis. I remember that I was very anxious at what was next. Would someone else take a chance on me? Would I be able to continue in this field that I had grown to love so much?
Since then I have worked for small bakeries, learning how to bake things I had never heard of, and learning how to scale them for production. I have worked for small businesses where I was thrown in head first and had no choice but to work hard and learn skills from the wonderful coworkers I had, and realized that there was no training in this business.
Sink or swim.
I have worked for a James Beard Award nominated chef. At a place that will always be very close to my heart.
Above all else, I have grown and gotten better.
I look back at those early pictures and think of that girl icing and decorating those cakes. A girl who was so unsure if she would have a career, so unsure if she could do it.
Happiness in my job has always been my main goal. It has led me in and out of a lot of places, but I have grown at each of them.
When I think about the future, I am no longer intimidated or scared of where I will be.

One of my latest cakes that are on display.

Here's to what's next!

Way to go, Bri! I admire you for not giving in when the going gets rough. It's easier to give up and give in, but the reward will never be the same. Enjoy the ride. -Rach
